The Aquabats and Squier:
Two Great Tastes, Together At Last!
There are three simple words in the English language that strike stark, quivering terror into the blackened hearts of criminals and evil-doers worldwide:
The Aquabats!
Uh … er, make that two words. Anyhoo, that’s right, kids—crime-busting musical superheroes the Aquabats can be found lathering their foamy justice all over the razor stubble of evil far and wide this fall, from the concert stage to the small screen to that other small screen with all those little plastic keys, and Squier is with them every glorious, perilous, melodious step of the way!
Case in point: the new A-bats video for “Fashion Zombies,” from the totally bat-tastic new smash album Charge!! shows why one exclamation point just isn’t enough as our heroes wax heroic with a Squier Jagmaster, Squier ’51 and Squier P-Bass Special. Their homeys, the kids, can see for themselves by visiting www.theaquabats.com and clicking on the “news” link. Many of those same kids e-mailed their pictures in and can now see themselves in the video!
On the heels of their wildly triumphant summer ’05 “Teenage Pajamas From Outer Space” and “Son Of Teenage Pajamas From Outer Space” tours, early October will find the Aquabats and their Squier arsenal put ashore in Japan; then it’s straight to the U.K., mate, for the “Good To Go Tour 2005,” during which the ’Bats will fight crime on the left side instead of the right. Tallyho!
Be sure to check out the unbridled hilarity of Squier’s Aquabats Q&A and Aquabats summer ’05 tour diary from guitarist Chainsaw, right here on this website!

11 Burning Questions For the Aquabats’ Chainsaw
(’cause 10 just isn’t enough)
Swashbuckling Aquabats guitarist Chainsaw graciously took time out from playing music, fighting crime and watching C-SPAN 2 in order to participate in the following Squier Q&A session. When you read his answers to our probing, total-teen-investigative-reporter-style questions, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and maybe—just maybe—you’ll learn a little something about yourself. |
Chainsaw: “Hippies go home.”

Squier: What are your musical influences, and what are your combating-evil Influences?
C: Jimmy Page meets Robert Quine meets Johnny Ramone. Evil equals Neal Diamond, Captain Beefheart, Ween and Jimmy Page.
Squier: You guys are Squier monsters—which models are you using and how do you like them?
C: The firsts ones we were using was the Jagmasters—they rule it! I love the new changes on them, as well. Right now I’m loving the Squier ’51—simplicity is what it’s all about.
Squier: Will we be seeing any Aquabats action figures anytime soon?
C: Yes! The Aquabats’ 15-year business plan includes action figures!
Squier: What was your strangest billing/gig?
C: Joan Jet and the Aquabats, now were talkin’! Not joking, by the way.
Squier: Ever tempted to go unmasked?
C: Never. Once, Crash McLarson (bass) came straight from a wedding to a gig and showed up just in the nick of time. We strapped a helmet and mask on 'im, duct-taped his bass to his tuxedo, and away we went.
Squier: All the titles on Charge!! end with an exclamation point! Please to explain …
C: We wanted people to read the titles like as if someone was screaming it at them, just like our shows—we drive it right down their throats.
Squier: Any news on the development of a cartoon/live action show?
C: A third attempt for a pilot is currently in the works. Very exciting, let me tell you.
Squier: You have such a strong teen (and even pre-teen) following, yet you also have a devout adult following. Do you purposely aim your music toward one group in particular?
C: It’s all about the kids, man. If it weren’t for them, we’d have nothing to write about. If the Aquabats were for grown-ups, we’d have to write about shooting stars and crap like that.
Squier: If you were to sum up the Aquabats philosophy, or zeitgeist, or raison d’être, or whatever you want to call it, how would you put it?
C: Hippies go home.
Squier: What is it really like to be guitar-wielding superheroes?
C: It’s insane! If there’s someplace I want to go or if I want to get into something for free, I just show up in my costume.
Squier: Any advice for your homeys, the kids?
C: Yeah—don’t forget to pick up Charge!! at your local music store!

Mon. Aug. 8
Colorado Springs, Colo. |
|
We played this heavy metal club. It was insanely hot because there were so many kids packed into a little club.
|
|
Thurs. Aug. 11
Lawrence, Kan. |
|
We’ve played this place several times and it’s usually my least-favorite club. However, a bunch of people showed up, so it ended up being a fun show. The backstage is an attic that you can barely stand up in, and it becomes a sauna once the show starts.

Mon. Aug. 15
Pittsburgh, Pa. |
|
We got lost (thanks to MapQuest) trying to find the club, so we arrived at load-in an hour late. The building was church that had been converted into a club. It was really nice—the backstage was a house with a kitchen, living room (with a grand piano!) and a bunch of bedrooms. They let you sleep there for $100, which would’ve been great, but we had an overnight drive to New Haven, Conn. Oh well.

Wed. Aug. 17
Providence, R.I. |
|
This was a fun show. Greg Hawkes (keyboard player for the Cars) brought his son to the show. He hung out back stage all night; it was really cool.
|
|
Thurs. Aug. 18
Brooklyn, N.Y. |
|
A crazy accident on the toll road had us sitting in traffic forever. This was the first time we have ever played Brooklyn. Tim Armstrong (Rancid) came to see the opening act of the tour, Time Again (he just signed them to Hellcat). He hung out with us a bit and ended up sticking around for our set.
|
|
Fri. Aug. 19
Somewhere in New Jersey |
|
The club’s name was “Obsessions.” The sound guy said Kiss played there once. I’m sure it was just once.
|
|
Sat. Aug. 20
Baltimore, Md. |
|
This was a make-up show. A thunderstorm knocked out the power the last time we were here.We hosted an XM Satellite Radio show. They let us make the playlist and choose whatever songs we wanted. It was a lot of fun.
|
|
Wed. Aug. 24
New Orleans, La. |
|
This is my favorite House of Blues—really nice club and cool people that work there. It’s crazy that they were talking about hurricane Katrina at the time, but it didn’t seem like a big deal. The hotel we stayed at became a hostel for people who had no place else to go.
|
|
Sat. Aug. 27
El Paso, Texas |
|
“The Club” is a motel that had been converted into a club. They tore down a couple of walls to make room for tonight’s show. They were still building the stage when we got there, which is never a good sign. But it was a lot of fun—a packed house makes up for everything. Good way to end the tour.
