Bass Player Readers Vote Top Honors for Squier, Fender®
Squier Classic Vibe basses.
Squier basses and their Fender siblings did very well in Bass Player magazine’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards, presented in the magazine’s July 2009 issue.
Bass Player’s second annual reader poll looks very much like last year’s inaugural list, with Squier and Fender keeping their hold on a few key top spots and gaining significant ground in others. And once again this year, as in 2008, BP readers were especially kind to Jazz Bass® guitar models.
The Fender American Standard series Jazz Bass takes the title for “best bass between $700 and $1,500,” up from the number-two spot in 2008. Also in that category, Fender’s perennially popular Geddy Lee Jazz Bass rose from fifth place last year to third place this year.
Lee’s signature model also appeared as the second-place winner in the “best value” category (up from fourth place last year), which is now topped by the entire line of Squier Classic Vibe series basses (last year’s number one was Squier’s entire Vintage Modified series).
Squier and Fender gained the most new ground in the “best new product” category. Neither brand cracked BP readers’ top three in 2008, but the top spot in 2009 goes to Fender’s entire line of American Standard series basses, followed at number two by Squier’s Classic Vibe series basses.
