Mon the Biff! Squier is delighted to unveil its new Biffy Clyro signature instruments. Available in Europe, the Squier Simon Neil Signature Stratocaster and the Squier James Johnston Jazz Bass guitars were designed in collaboration with the hugely popular Scottish alt-rockers.
The two instruments debuted in October 2009 on the eve of the November 2009 release of new album Only Revolutions.
The Simon Neil Signature Stratocaster puts Neil's own personal touch on a Squier Classic Vibe series instrument. Based on his Fender® Custom Shop Time Machine™ '60s Stratocaster, it has an alder body finished in Fiesta Red, a vintage-tint gloss maple neck, three custom vintage-style single-coil pickups with a mix of alnico III and alnico V magnets, Neil's signature on the back of the headstock and Biffy Clyro logo on the front, a three-ply mint green pickguard, vintage-style tuning machines and aged white knobs, pickup covers and switch tip.
The James Johnston Jazz Bass also give the Biffy Clyro treatment to a Squier Classic Vibe instrument. Based on his Fender U.S.A. Jazz Bass, it has a Lake Placid Blue finish on a basswood body, vintage-tint gloss-maple neck with matching painted headstock, two custom single-coil Jazz Bass pickups, Johnston's signature on the back of the headstock and Biffy Clyro logo on the front, three-ply mint green pickguard and a high mass bridge with brass barrel saddles.
Both instruments have made appearances during recent Biffy Clyro performances.
Neil and Johnston, along with Johnston's twin brother Ben on drums, formed Biffy Clyro in the mid-1990s in Ayrshire, Scotland. Originally called Screwfish, the trio developed a style based on complex interwoven riffs, chord sequences and melodies and became known for intense and exciting live shows at which fans frequently chant "Mon the Biffy! (often shortened to "Mon the Biff!"). The band recorded albums Blackened Sky (2002), The Vertigo of Bliss (2003) and Infinity Land (2004) before wider mainstream success ignited with Puzzle (2007).
